Passage 1: Ayat-ul-Kursi
(2:255)
(a) The main theme of this passage, which we know as the verse of the Throne, is the oneness of Allah or Tawhid. This means that God is a being who is unlike other beings because He knows everything and can do everything, and does not have relations such as children or parents. The same theme is also explained in Surah Ikhlas:”He does not beget nor is He begotten”(112:3).Allah is the Creator of the universe and He does not need to take rest to run the entire universe. His knowledge is absolute and perfect. The mention of His throne is a way of how great His power is, and also His knowledge of everything that happens. (b) The themes of this passage tell us that Muslims should not commit shirk in their daily lives because Allah is One and Only and He is pure from all human attributes. Al-Qayyum and Throne show Allah’s absolute power which means we should only depend on Allah to fulfill all our needs and we should not think ourselves powerful in our daily lives. The importance of this passage is that if a Muslim recites Ayat-ul-Kursi before sleeping, Allah appoints an angel for the whole night to protect that person. If a Muslim recites it after every Fardh prayer he will be safe from all evil, black magic etc. In this way this passage is very important in a Muslim’s daily life.
Passage 2: Surah Ana'am (6:101-103)
Passage 3: Surah Fussilat (41:37)
Passage 4: Surah Shura (42:4-5)
1. These verses mention two of the important articles of faith, Tawhid and the existence of Angels. It describes Allah’s supremacy over the entire universe that He is the Master and Owner of the earth, heaven and everything therein. No one has share in His authority and power. This passage also tells us about the existence of angels. His angels glorify Allah and praise Him and seek His forgiveness and mercy for the whole mankind. Allah says in Surah Al-Mumin “Those who sustain the Throne and those around it sing glory and praise to their Lord.”(40:7). Angels seek His mercy because they know that He is the symbol of mercy and forgiveness and only He has the authority to forgive His creations. This attribute of Allah excels all His other attributes. 2. The themes of this passage tell Muslims that they should not only praise Allah, have trust in him and ask help only from Him and they should not rely upon worldly sources to benefit them in their daily lives because He alone has supremacy and power over the entire universe. This passage tells us that Allah does not need our worship He has already created angels who are always busy in worshipping Him so we should worship and praise only Allah and follow His teachings in our daily lives for our own benefit. It also tells us that we should not be hopeless due to our uncountable sins; instead we should keep asking forgiveness from Allah in our daily lives thinking that He is the symbol of mercy and forgiveness.
Passage 5: Surah Ikhlas (112)
(a) This surah summarizes the belief of Tawhid or absolute oneness of Allah and rejects shirk and polytheism from its roots. It means that Allah is absolute One in existence as well as in attributes. Allah says in Surah Baqarah:”And your God is One God…”(2:163). He is eternal and ever-living, without any beginning or end. He is neither the father nor the son. Tawhid is the foundation of Islam and almost one-third of the Quran talks about oneness of Allah. This surah was revealed in reply to the questions the unbelievers of Makkah would frequently ask Prophet (PBUH) concerning Allah. They thought that only Allah is not enough to manage all affairs of the universe. So they believed in idols as His appointed authorities in this world. This surah also speaks at the unique status of Allah which is beyond the scope of human imagination. (b) This surah is complete in its message of Tawhid. It tells that Muslims should worship only Allah and they should not associate any partner with Him in their daily lives because Allah is Ever-living and is Superior above all. He is pure from plurality. He does no depend on anyone but everyone and everything is dependent on Him to be sustained. Therefore, only He should be worshipped in our daily lives. This passage also rejects the ideas of those who believe that the angels are the daughters of Allah and Jesus is His son. This passage also tells that we should ask only His help in every step of our life today because he has uncountable attributes and so much power. If a Muslim recites Surah Ikhlas three times he will get equal reward of reciting the whole Quran in his daily life.
